August 2011: Hiking the San Francisco Mountains
In Flagstaff for a research retreat, Rex and I took an afternoon hike up Abineau Canyon in the San Francisco Mountains. The rain and cold cut short what would have been a longer hike.
The black bear we spotted from inside the car. Better than running into it while hiking!
The north side of the San Francisco Mountains.
Where are we going? And why aren't we going there faster?
Beautiful mountain meadows please me in the summer time!
Rex owns the trail!
The troupe hikes along.
The trail gets steeper still!
And then it started raining harder and colder.
Lance leads the way, but we decided to turn around at this point on account of not being prepared for the cooler, wetter weather.
"Okay, I'll lead the way back down too!", says Lance.
Pascal in front of some aspens.
Almost back to the car.
